What to expect with crowns
When a cavity has penetrated too deep for a simple filling, often times a crown is recommended as the proper treatment to restore the tooth. A crown is a tooth-like "cap" that is placed over a tooth to help restore the tooth's shape, size, strength, and appearance.
Here's what you can expect from this procedure:
Preparing the tooth for the crown
This involves the doctor preparing the tooth by removing any defective material (i.e. existing crown, filling, etc.) and then digitally scanning the tooth, surrounding teeth and tissue.
Milling of the tooth
All crowns are milled in our office in our Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics (CEREC) machine. This innovative technology allows all crowns to be made same-day. No more waiting and wearing a temporary! The process can take anywhere between 60-90 minutes.
Cementing the Crown
Finally the crown will be cleaned and cemented on the tooth's remaining surface.
